How to Keep Electronics Safe when Moving

How to Keep Electronics Safe when Moving

When you are moving there are a lot of things which are delicate and need to be paid special attention. These are usually valuable or easily breakable things. However, they can sometimes be things like electronics. One is for sure- do not cut corners on them because it will cost you thousands of dollars in the end. Going for the cheap we usually end up paying load of money because of damages. For this reason you should do your best when it comes to the safety of your computers, printers, etc. Here are some tips you could use.

Firstly find the original boxes of your electronics. Ideally, you will have kept them and will use them for they are indeed the best solution since are specially made for this or that equipment. If you do not have them with you, you can always purchase special boxes for your electronics from your removals company. And do not worry if you are using the DIY method because you can still buy the boxes from any relocation firm without hiring its services.

A very important thing you should not forget is all the wires. Carefully remove them before the moving itself. Since there are usually a lot of cables and wires and the mess is almost inevitable try to avoid it by sorting them. Roll each cable or wire separately. After that you can put every two or three of them in a bag and properly label them. It is best actually if you write on a piece of paper a little note about where each one belongs to.

Now here comes the tricky part. What turns out to be a common mistake is loading CDs, DVDs, and floppy discs on a truck. You should know about them that they are very sensitive. If you put them in a place with too high or low temperatures, they will probably get damaged. That is why, just to be sure, take them with you in your vehicle.

As for packing, packing peanuts and popcorn can be really good for most items but not for electronics. They can seriously harm them. So, when it comes to your electronics use soft cloths, moving blankets and pads.

Electronics can be small and easily portable but some are really big and heavy. If you do not have the help of professional movers it can be very challenging for an amateur. And yet there is something which can ease your DIY method, namely a dolly. Using a dolly you will not have to actually lift anything heavy except to put it on the dolly. From then on it will do all the work, all you have to do is roll and control it. It is very useful when there are stairs on your way.

No matter how cautious you are there still might be parts which have shifted during the move. For this reason be careful when unpacking the boxes containing your electronics. Plus, remember not to open them immediately but to leave them for a while to adjust to the temperature of the room they are in now.

The Last Time (grab a box of Kleenex)

by Devon Corneal

Tonight, Little Dude asked for a snuggle before bed. It was well past his bedtime and I was tired, cranky and had a stack of laundry to fold, a memo to write and a blog post to finish. I told him I’d snuggle for two minutes.

He crawled under his blanket, squirmed until he was comfortable and pushed me to the edge of the mattress. He offered me his favorite blankie to keep me warm. I put my arm around him and he was sound asleep before I had finished cataloguing the list of things I had to do before I could crawl into my own bed. I considered making a stealthy escape but stopped when he threw his arm around my neck while mumbling unintelligibly. A sleeping 4-year old’s arm has as much strength as a soggy piece of toast, but I didn’t move. Despite my earlier desire to leave, I stayed and pulled him toward me.

I had one of those rare blissful parenting moments when everything else fades away and you appreciate the simple physical presence of your child. I marveled at the amount of heat a small boy produces when he sleeps and the ease with which he leaves the world behind. I smelled his hair. The laundry could wait.

It hit me in the darkness of his cluttered room that these days are numbered. Some night in the future, Little Dude will ask me to snuggle with him before he falls asleep, and I will have no idea that it will be the last time. I won’t know to pay attention or to try to commit every minute to memory. Days or weeks or months later, I will try to recall when that last snuggle happened. I won’t be able to. I know I will ache to slide next to him on his narrow bed, listen to him breathe and wait for the moment when he surrenders to his dreams. All of the irritations, the inconveniences and the wishing for time alone will seem insignificant in comparison to the warmth and peace of his nighttime routine. I will regret the times I hurried through bedtime and left his room even though he asked me to stay “Just one more minute, Mommy.”

It will be too late.

I just now understand that in anticipating my son’s “firsts,” I’ve forgotten to appreciate what he’s left behind. The firsts are monumental, celebrated and captured on film. I reveled in Little Dude’s first steps, jotted down his first words and am prepared to save lost teeth. There isn’t a first I haven’t recorded in some way. I’ve paid less attention to his “lasts.” I’ve ignored the finality that comes with moving from one stage to another.

I don’t remember the last day that Little Dude’s eyes were blue before they turned green. I can’t recall the last time his hair was baby soft and curly, or the last time he crawled or took a real nap. I can’t pinpoint the last time we shared the peaceful quiet of a 3 a.m. feeding, or he squealed with joy to be riding his wooden rocking horse. There will be a hundred last times to come. And I won’t know they’ve passed until there is no hope of recapturing them. I know this because I don’t remember the last day he used a pacifier or waited for us to get him from his bed rather than clomping into our bedroom at some ungodly pre-dawn hour exuberant and ready to face the day as we struggle to open our eyes. I’ve forgotten when he stopped liking sweet potatoes or saying “Pick mine up!”

Not that there aren’t stages I’m happy are gone. I don’t miss teething, two-hour feedings, biting or needing to be carried everywhere. I’m neither Pollyanna nor a masochist. Babies are darling; I’m also glad I don’t have one anymore. Raising children isn’t all warm snuggles and charming memories. Parenting can be a long, hard slog.

But for today I’m focusing on the last times still to come, even though I won’t know that they’re the last chapters until long after they’ve gone. The last snuggle. The last time Little Dude asks me to bring him chocolate milk. The last time we play fire trucks. The last time he falls down and comes crying to me with his entire body shaking, tears streaming down his face, believing with childish certainty that a kiss from me will make his skinned knee better. The last time he asks to marry me. The last time he believes in my omniscience. The last time we color together at the kitchen table. I’m not naïve enough to believe that this moment of reflection will stop me from becoming irritated, impatient, frustrated, bored or upset tomorrow when my son whines, spills spaghetti sauce on the rug or throws a fit because I won’t let him stay up late. Maybe, though, I’ll temper my response if I can remember how fleeting this all is. That for every moment I’ve prayed would end, there is something I miss.

3 Simple Marketing Ideas You Need to Start Doing For Your Business

One thing I’ve never heard anyone complain about is having too many sales. Now, your business can certainly grow more quickly than you expected, and you may have to find ways to scale it and keep up, but in all actuality, who isn’t looking to boost sales a bit?

There are some things that you can do right this very moment that can help increase your brand awareness, and pull customers in from sources that you otherwise may not have.

Here are 3 simple ideas that you can implement into your marketing plan immediately:

1. Start using coupon sites. This is a strategy that I started awhile back, after I started inserting coupon codes on some of the standard business promotion sites, like Manta and Merchant Circle, offering discounts on orders at my website. When I saw the codes being used by my customers quite frequently, I decided to see where else I could place coupons for my company.

Do a search for coupon sites in your favorite search engine, and start visiting these pages. Some of them have quirky hoops that you need to jump through in order to get a coupon listed, but many of them allow just about anyone to add a coupon for any store, both online and offline. Some of my favorites that I have seen some good return on, and were easy to submit my coupon codes to, are 247coupon.com, hotfrog, retailmenot.com, and coupon chief.

2. Start Pinning on Pinterest. Ok, so this is a simple marketing strategy that you should be using if your particular niche is catered to women. Pinterest is an image-sharing platform that has taken social media by storm. 90% of its users are female.

Create a pin board, using product images and other interesting content, in hopes that it will go viral. Infographics, which are a hot marketing tool, are great for pushing out on Pinterest.

3. Start “thanking” your customers. Well, you should be doing this literally all the time. However, do you ever make that extra effort to wow your customers?

Show them how much you appreciate their business, and surprise them with complimentary items when they place a big order with you. Also be sure to take care of the customers that have been loyal to you for a long time. They may place smaller orders, but the fact that they have consistently done so for a few years, certainly deserves recognition with a small token of your appreciation. Sending a “thank you” note, along with a gift card for gas, movies, coffee or books, in their order or out-of-the-blue, will go a long way with a customer.

Gestures like this will be remembered by them when it comes time to reorder, and one of your competitors is offering a better price. Many consumers will go with a business they feel comfortable with, and who they know will treat them well, even if it means paying a few dollars more. It can also help to smooth things over a bit if/when there may be a customer service problem in the future.

I know there are many other things that go into a marketing plan, but start implementing these tactics, and I guarantee you’ll start attracting more buyers.

The Invention of the Cash Mob

Local businesses ultimately tread water for most of their lives under the disinterested eye of major players in the respective industries. Being presented with a pair of water-wings would provide respite for anyone under trying circumstances. On the other side of this metaphor is the recent development of the cash mob, set out to offer water wings to small businesses in as many places as possible.
When Chris Smith conceptualised the idea of a cash mob less than a year ago he might not have realised that it would take off so dramatically. The idea of the cash mob is quite similar to its more social influencer, the flash mob, in that it pools a group of strangers together in an attempt to add value to society in some way. Whether it is an unexpected well-choreographed dance routine in a shopping mall, or for the purposes of mass demonstration for political purposes, a flash mob has an intangible outcome. A cash mob on the other hand aims to provide cash injection for small businesses that could really do with a larger customer base.
Cash mobs are taking off slowly but surely all over the world. As group buying sites become more popular, small to medium-sized businesses take big risks in forking out a lot of money to pay the online retailer as well as reduce their product price. Contrary to a group buying site the cash mob encourages personal interaction with store owners through physical purchases. This adds a new dimension to the buying process and serves as a valuable way of retaining customers.
The optimal cash mob functions in the following way:A vote is taken on which enterprise should be mobbed.A date and time is arranged for the cash mob to take place. The right number of people mob the store without there being too many to handle or too few to make the cash mob a successful venture. Lastly, the mob needs to carry out its main function by spending money in the store through their purchases.
The result of a successful cash mob is that store owners get a valuable injection to their cash flow, allowing them to keep their heads above water for a while longer. This trend will most likely spread out to the rest of the world in the near future and as a relatively new venture the cash mob is already making a bit of a splash online.

Get Everything Done Today: Be More Productive

College can be either the best years of your life or the worst, depending upon your outlook and attitude. Many college students, especially freshmen, feel so overwhelmed that they are walking around like zombies, merely surviving instead of living. One of the best ways to ensure that you are not among the walking dead is to be as productive as possible during your college career. This is much easier than it sounds. All it takes is a solid plan and the motivation to stick to the plan at all times. By following these simple guidelines, you will be more productive, more successful, and much happier during your college years, making it truly one of the best times of your life.

Wake up earlier. Yes, this sounds like a very, very bad thing to many college students, but the truth is that sleeping in regularly robs you of energy and time. Getting in the habit of waking up early will allow you precious extra hours each day to get work done, to hang out with friends, or simply to take a minute to relax. It also helps you to get into a routine that will leave you feeling more alert and energized EVERY day.

Minimize distractions. The college environment can be a minefield of distraction. Friends coming and going, constant activity, video games, television, social networking, and more can easily pull your attention away from your studies. When you sit down to study, turn off your cell phone, avoid using the computer for anything other than the task at hand, and make it known that you are unavailable.

Take advantage of technology. Today’s college students have advantages that were unavailable to past generations. Use your smartphone and a laptop to take advantage of any down time during, or between, classes. By utilizing any available down time to get a head start on assignments, you will have much more time to have fun later on.

Take time for yourself. Regardless of how busy you are, take time for yourself every single day. Meet friends for dinner, to sneak in a workout, to catch a movie, or to play games. This lets you relax and unwind and will make your mind sharper when you get back to business, allowing you to accomplish more.

Stay organized. One of the main ways to increase your productivity and to reduce stress is to stay organized. Keep your study area tidy and develop a paper system for keeping up with deadlines, syllabi, work in progress, and more. Digital systems are not recommended for college students because they often require you to double-handle many documents, thus losing time.

Following these guidelines to productivity will take a great deal of the stress out of going to college. Although it may seem that some of these ideas are counterintuitive to what you want to do, there is no doubt that they will allow you to use your time more efficiently, which in turn allows you to have more free time for fun.

Man in his 80s with “severe dementia” returning to old self after starting coconut oil

dementia coconut oil family Man in his 80s with severe dementia returning to old self after starting coconut oil

Health Impact News Editor Comments: I spoke with Joseph Jauregui about the joy he and his brothers and sisters have after seeing their father change when he started to use coconut oil in his diet. Joe reported to me that while his father still has a ways to go to be like his former self before dementia set in, that now his mother and siblings feel like they have their father back again. Here is his story, which is a chronology of observations over several weeks.

by Joseph Jauregui

My Dad was diagnosed with Severe Dementia about 7-8 years ago. I still remember the day when he forgot my name.  Ever since then I’ve been praying for him to return to whom he was, but as time passed he got worse and worse.  I saw a very articulate man go from creative, comical and caring to distraught, lost and childlike.

He than started having accidents to my mothers disgust (that was 8 years ago). He was having about 5-6 accidents a day and getting up at all hours of the night.  He was going back in time daily, and even losing the ability to communicate and read.

A friend of mine told me about this coconut oil and its results and I practically got tears in my eyes (and I’m a dude haha).  So I bought some coconut oil and gave it to my mother as she cooks all his meals.

I visit every other Saturday, so before I went I psyched myself up to accept that there would be “no difference” as my dad is in his 80′s, and I felt he was too far gone. He had been diagnosed with severe dementia 10 years earlier. Well to my surprise my mother said he had changed quite a bit, and that he wasn’t getting up as often at night. And the best part was that she wasn’t complaining about his antics nearly as much as the past years.

Two weeks later I returned and my father was far more social, and he even began to tell jokes. He still wasn’t himself, but a glimse of his former self was there.

I missed going one week but the report from my sister was good.  She called my mom on the phone and my dad answered.  She was surprised that he spoke to her in a way he hadn’t spoken to her in YEARS. I’m very hopeful, and I gotta say Coconut Oil is now a part of my routine. It is great in eggs and steamed veggies (yum!).

I visited the folks this past week and was hoping for more changes, and yes there were.

First off I need to tell you all that my sister, her husband and child moved in with my folks due to the job situation. My mother doesn’t  like it as the house is small, and she still gets embarrassed about my dad’s situation, but my dad who has always been an extrovert loves having more people at home.  He was telling jokes and laughing, giggling…oh what a mess haha!  My mother was telling me that he’s been like that for a couple of days, which is great, as he really never laughed all that much after the disease hit him.

I left there feeling very appreciative of the changes in his life. Those prayers are being answered, and I’m feeling great.  The next day my brother went down to my folks house and told me that dad did something he hasn’t done in years – he combed his hair! He is doing things he had not done before. The coconut oil is working and is having great results in him.

One day I believe he will return to the person whom he was. The change in him over the 7 weeks has been far better than I would of hoped for. This diet of coconut oil in everything he eats has done wonders for him. And my mother didn’t even complain to me once  this week - WAHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Wonder where the day has gone? Some time suckers that are costing you money.

Do you ever end the day and wonder where it all went? Even if you wake up at the crack of dawn the evening comes and it’s sometimes as if you never really got started. If you continually find yourself desperate to get your financial affairs in order but you’re constantly just barely getting by it would be a good idea for you look at how you spend your time, and what it’s costing you.

The Web

Surfing the ‘Net and habitually pursuing social media sites can slide you down into rabbit hole upon rabbit hole. If on the job or working from home to meet a deadline and added up all of the lost time you spent clicking around you would most likely be shocked. Time is money, and time spent on frivolous things other than the task at hand can end up costing you your job and a whole lot more.

This isn’t to suggest doing away with social media altogether but it is a good idea to set yourself a realistic usage budget and to do everything in your power to stick with it. Having trouble remaining disciplined? Consider logging out entirely so you’ll have to go to the effort of logging back in and also consider removing any phone apps or shutting off your phone entirely, until you get a good chunk of work done each day.

Tackling Things You Aren’t Qualified For

We’ve all been there, tried to be proactive and handle some daunting tasks like plumbing, complex taxes, car repairs, etc. If you’re skilled at any of these things then have at it. But if you’re like the rest of us – with hopes and ambition more than actual first-hand experience, then you should consider that you may cause more harm than good. Plus you’ll most likely still end up having to hire someone to come in and do damage control anyhow. So is it really worth it? On the other side of the coin, be very careful not to let things go too long if they require attention – a leaky roof is not going to get better on its own and won’t get any cheaper to fix down the road.

Sleeping In

Ahh sleep, who doesn’t love it? Yet that repeat hit on the snooze button can rob you of some of your best potential for success. Yes, sleeping in feels terrific but then causes day after day of needing to play catch up. So try this, go for one week where you set the clock early and just hop out of bed – and see if you don’t find yourself taking on the world with a surprising level of success.

On the other hand…

Convenience Isn’t Cheap

When you think of fast food and those coffees on the run you’re probably thinking that the time-saving factor is helping you save money, but try this: take your bank statement and color-code the different expenses and see how much those lattes set you back each month. If attempting to get ahead financially, dining out and specialty non-essential items will suck up everything you’ve got in terms of any extra cash. To get back on track, turn dining out as the treat it’s meant to be and not as a regular occurrence.

It might sound daunting but getting ahead financially is really mostly a matter of defining your priorities, becoming more disciplined, and really getting a handle on where your money’s going. These simple tips should help you get back on track in a quick and fairly painless way.

What Does It Take to Be Successful Online?

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to learn how to make money online. And it isn’t quite as hard as winning the lottery either. But it does take discipline, self motivation, and commitment. If you are looking for an easy business that will make you a lot of money in a short time, I would not recommend working online. It has taken me nearly 3 years to get to the point where I don’t have to go to work at my “other job”. During the first two years, I worked for free. I worked on weekends, and at night after I put my kids to bed. It was definitely a sacrifice, but now I am to the point that I can outsource a lot of my work, and don’t have to work nearly as many hours to get the same amount of work done.

When I started blogging, I didn’t know anything about making money. But I did know a little bit about a few different topics and I decided that I would start writing about things that I liked.  My opinion was that if I could be passionate about something and write about it, then eventually somebody would read it and eventually I would be successful.  I think that this is the best approach to picking a topic to blog about. Don’t try and write articles about insurance just because you think you’re going to get rich. If you have a passion for golf, write about golf. If you have a passion for hot rods or purses, write about the things that you want to write about.  If you have a passion for something, you are going to probably stick with it much longer and not quit.

The other essential tool that you need is faith. (This doesn’t mean religious faith, but they are closely linked.)  If you didn’t think that the seed would grow, you wouldn’t take the time to plant it. You wouldn’t water it, and you wouldn’t weed around the seed. Anyone who has done gardening knows that a seed doesn’t come out of the ground right away. In fact, it takes sometimes as long as a week or two before you even see the seed grow into a sprout. Websites generally take three or four months before they start to sprout. (Anyone who says otherwise, is probably trying to sell you something you don’t really need!)  Once the seed starts to grow, you don’t get fruit right away.  A sprout doesn’t get very much sunlight and it is not mature enough to produce fruit. Likewise, a new website that is only a few months old, is not going to be making money right away.  What you need to do is keep watering, fertilizing, and weeding so that your plant can grow larger. You only see the fruits of your labor once the plant is mature enough to bear fruit. If you only take care of the plant for two months or three months, and it doesn’t produce any fruit, and then you stop taking care of it, your plant will die and all of your work will be in vain.  Some plants, like walnuts take four or five years to bear fruit. Others like peas, will bear fruit in a matter of 3 to 4 months.  When you start your site, decide what kind of plant it is, is it going to be a great walnut tree, or a tiny pea plant.

The last thing you need to do is to pick specific words you’re going to be targeting. Make sure that the posts that you write target your keywords specifically.  And you need to decide whether you are going to get all of your links naturally, or you are going to need to build links to your site so that other people can find you online. Once your site can be found through links, then Google is more likely to send it organic traffic. Once you start getting ranked for organic traffic, you’re going to start making money.
