Google’s New Office Play Areas

25 Aug

In the small world of SEO, Google is king. In the world of algorithms, strategies and structures steeped in rankings and search, Google is still king. In the world of how cool offices can increase productivity and moral, Google has trail blazed the way. Google’s new offices have, as always, shown the world that giving staff an entertainment park to work in actually works. And it works really well. Google ensures their staff are stoked to come to work as it means their desire to achieve is at an all time high. The company is known for its many benefits that ensure staff stress is at a minimum. The offices are equipped with daycare centres for employee’s kids, a doctor’s office and canteens with healthy food to keep everyone in optimum health. It’s all down to making the offices too good to leave.

Google’s Offices of Fun

Google offices are different from country to country and the recent renovation of Google’s London headquarters have people searching for job opportunities at the SEO giant. Google’s Covent Garden offices have added a few more fundamental blocks to keeping staff happy. Everything from physical to psychological elements are catered for at Google’s offices.

The relaxation rooms feature Lazy Boy chairs, or empty bath tubs, to lie in. In front of each chair, or bath tub, is a fish tank. The idea that fish relaxes the mind is altogether true. It relieves stress and creative blocks. Experts have known this for decades, but Google was the first to implement a full-on relaxation room with fish tanks to boost staff morale. If you’re not in the mood for looking at fish swimming straight into the glass, perhaps the padded room could help you. Google offices are fun to work at and the padded walls are not an invitation to bang your head against them to relieve the stress, they’re there for decoration.

If you feel like working in fresh air then chill-out in the secret garden at the top Google’s 160,000 square-feet building. London’s hot weather has meant that Google staff has had the pleasure of enjoying Covent Garden and all the sunshine, while they plug away at the new algorithms and Panda Updates that they plan on letting loose on the SEO world. The hugely popular garden is also in keeping with the latest trend of rooftop gardens.

The living rooms, libraries, ski lifts, igloos and slippy slides through-out all the Google offices keep the kid inside alive for most. The creativity involved in the world of Google means that very often the brain and body feel like they’ve been wrung out. Nothing rejuvenates the work mode like a bit of relaxation, a few games of pool and a Wheatgrass Smoothie from the canteen of Google’s new offices.  Red Bull’s HQ and Facebook offices are not far behind, and may be the next cool offices on the block.

Google are an amazing company with brilliant products. No wonder if they give their staff the opportunity to really deliver. Its a shame that more companies do not treat their employees in this way and maybe retention rates would be high as well as productivity! Great post!
