Former NFL coach Mike Ditka said on Tuesday that he admires GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump.
“I do like Donald Trump,” he told reporter Dan Cahill during a taped interview with The Chicago Sun-Times. “I think he’s on the right track.”
“I think he sometimes has got to think a little bit more before he says things,” Ditka said.
“[But] I think that he has the fire in his belly to make America great again,” the football star said. “He’ll probably do it the right way. I do like him, yes.”
Ditka’s remarks follow New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady praising Trump during his own radio interview Tuesdaymorning.
“Honestly, he’s a good friend,” Brady said of Trump on “The Dennis & Callahan Morning Show.”
“We’ve had a lot of together on the golf course over the years,” the professional athlete said. “He’s a hell of a lot of fun to play golf with.”
Brady then stopped short of endorsing the outspoken billionaire during his comments on Tuesday.
“I don’t know,” he said when asked if he is voting for Trump in 2016. “Am I going to vote for him? That’s a good question.”
Trump’s kind words from the football world come as he is leading the race for next year’s GOP presidential nomination across multiple national polls.
He currently ranks first out of 17 Republican White House hopefuls with 27.8 percent, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of U.S. samplings.
