Over 15,000 U.S. Troops Will Stay in Afghanistan Beyond 2016 – but Obama has told us 100 times “I Ended the War…”

15 Oct
President Barack Obama outlined on Thursday a plan to keep U.S. troops in Afghanistan beyond the original December 2016 withdrawal deadline.

In a statement, Obama announced the U.S. will maintain its current posture of 9,800 troops in the country to train and support the Afghan security forces.

Additionally, instead of maintaining a “normal” embassy presence in Kabul, Obama announced the U.S. would maintain 5,500 troops stationed at bases around the country.

The policy change was made public by the U.S. National Security Council in a statement, which said: “This announcement in no way changes the fact that our combat mission in Afghanistan has ended, and we will continue to undertake only two narrow missions: counterterrorism and training, advising, and assisting our Afghan partners.”  JUST LIKE WE DID IN VIET NAM
